Puppy Pit Bull!!!

So, I thought that pit bulls were not allowed in NZ, but we were at breakfast this morning at the same place we ate yesterday (still getting used to this food over here haha) and we saw this little puppy, who was so cute! Apparently certain breeds of pit bulls are allowed... We wanted to see if the owner would let us take a picture of it, and so we started talking to her, and she sounded American. She asked where we were from and we told her, and she said that she was also from Reno! Crazy! 1.3 million people in this town and we run into a fellow Renoian! So awesome! She has been here for four years, bc she married a Kiwi. Very cool! We exchanged contact info so we are hoping to get together with her sometime.

Thats all I have for now, just enjoying our time in NZ!
Love you all!

Here's some more!

This is the view of downtown Auckland from over by the beach! So beautiful!

So you go to a park in the US, you see people playing football or baseball. You go to a park in NZ and you see people playing cricket and rugby. haha Its so cute to see the little kids learning cricket.
The water is so blue and beautiful and then the land is so lush and green!

It was our first time out of the city today, and it was so much fun. This is a beautiful country!

Now look at this picture below... Any one who knows Carla, does this look familiar? haha :)

All Blacks!!!

Hey everyone!

So last night we acted like locals and went to a pub to watch an All Blacks match. AMAZING!! Me, Carla, and Katie (fellow Oktobor animator) went to this Shakespeare Tavern pub, ordered a few Old Gobos Nice Weiss beers, some chunky fries with tomato sauce (aka ketchup), and had a blast cheering on the All Blacks. And we got to see the Haka live! Sooo cool! It was the All Blacks vs Australia's Wallabies and man, those guys are tough!! There were some crazy hard hits.

Its an amazing sport and a ton of fun to watch. Unfortunately, at the VERY end (after NZ was ahead the whole match) Australia came out on top and won. BOOO! As one Kiwi behind me said, "ahh, that's retahhded!" haha I love how into it these guys get!

Kiwi life is pretty fun!

Happy Halloween from New Zealand

Just wanted to wish you all a Happy Halloween from New Zealand. We had a beautiful day at the Mission Bay beach in Parnell. Only a 15 minute bus ride from the city!

Walking around Auckland

Hey again!

How are you going? haha just a little kiwi talk :) So we've been exploring a little and Auckland is an amazing city! We took some pictures but there is sooooo much more to see. Here is a little bit more of our journey.

Here is the famous Sky Tower. An amazing building that you can see from pretty much any where in the city. And you can often here screams from the people bungee jumping off of it!

Having fun!!

This morning (Saturday here in NZ) we had some breakfast at a local muffin shop called "The Muffin Break". The muffins were great and the coffee was... interesting. Haha the coffee here is very different from US coffee. 4 packs of sugar later, it was drinkable. :)

Then we went down by the pier and wow! Its beautiful! The water is gorgeous and the ships are really amazing! Even on a gloomy/rainy Auckland day we had a lot of fun looking at these!

Heres me right outside of the Rugby World Cup super store. Man those Kiwis love their rugby. (more on that later)

Heres the GIANT countdown to the 2011 Rugby World Cup. I told you they love their All Blacks :)

Thats it for now! Keep checking back in. We love you guys and miss you all!

Hey Everyone!

So we made it to New Zealand and its... Crazy! A little stressful but a ton of fun! First we'd like to show you a little bit of the plane ride.

Pictured below is our massive 747-400! Biggest plane weve ever been on. And actually quite smooth and comfortable. Better than the 2 smaller flights we took before that one.

Heres beautiful Carla! The kitchen was right next to us, which was loud but kinda nice. There was no middle row next to us so it made it a little roomier.
A little bit of in flight entertainment :) Awesome!
Here was our dinner, which was suprisingly good for plane food :)

13 hours later... we're here!!

Halloween

Hey Everyone!

In light of Halloween being right around the corner, we thought we would post our pumpkins we carved this year. Also, this post is for something fun to hold you over until we get to NZ. 9 more days!!

Here is Carla's incredible pumpkin! She is super talented and picked an awesome white pumpkin with orange insides. It made for a really cool white spider with beedy eyes :)

Here is my attempt at making my pumpkin into Carl Fredricksen from Pixar's UP. I thought it came out kinda cool!
That's it for now! Thanks for checking out our pumpkins. Next we will be posting from New Zealand!

Welcome to our blog!

Hey everyone! Welcome to our blog! We are beginning our journey to New Zealand, and this is the flight path we will be taking... well not really, we will be traveling south west over Hawaii and Fiji. But the picture shows how far we are moving!! We are so excited for this adventure and we are excited to share it with you all!

We will be arriving on October 29th, but leaving the US on October 27th. The time difference between Pacific time and New Zealand time is 19 hours, so we lose a day by traveling over there!

If you are unaware, the reason we are moving is because Matty got the great pleasure of getting a job at Oktobor Animation in Auckland, NZ. He will be working on the TV show Penguins of Madagascar for Nickelodeon! He is very ecstatic to start the job! The scary part for both of us is that we arrive on October 29th, and the job starts November 1st! Whoa... we have three days to look for an apartment and get settled in... Yes, you read it right, we do NOT know yet where we will be living. We have a hotel set up for 5 days, but we are really hoping to find an apartment in that time or faster.

It is very nerve racking but we are so blessed to go on such an incredible journey. So keep checking back in and see what we have been up to! We are hoping to have an update within the first week we arrive.

Thanks for being a part of our blog!

Love,

Matty & Carla Walker

p.s. Those of you animators who are checking this out, there will be some animation (Penguins rock!) topics on here, but it will mostly be New Zealand stuff :)
